The Semperoper opens the 2018/19 season, the first under the auspices of new Managing Director Peter Theiler, with Arnold Schönberg’s »Moses and Aron«. This unfinished Biblical opera is more than just a musical drama about the founder of monotheistic religions. Presenting us with the contrast between the God-fearing prophet Moses and his eloquent and thus populist brother Aron, Schönberg deals with basic philosophical, religious and socio-political topics of the modern age. In a symposium held in cooperation with the Institute of Musicology at Dresden’s College of Music, this fascinating work of music theatre will be illuminated by musicologists and academics from the fields of theatre and cultural studies. The symposium launches a new series of annual accompanying events designed for a mixed audience of music lovers and experts.
