What a great performance! Over the years, the »Long Night of Dresden Theatre« has become an integral part of the city’s cultural life. Every hour on the dot, diverse local venues give 30-minute excerpts from their repertoire at specially organized evening performances. Thanks to the Dresden’s multifaceted theatre culture, a huge variety of genres and theatrical forms can be experienced on this very special night: From opera, operetta and plays to dance and cabaret as well as experimental projects on more than 30 stages scattered over 20 theatres. Each member of an expected audience of more than 10,000 can create their very own »Long Night of Dresden Theatre« by selecting from a programme of well over 100 different productions. The individual performances lasting 30 minutes always begin on the hour. Visitors can quickly travel from one location to the next by means of a shuttle service as well as trams and buses specially scheduled for the »Long Night of Dresden Theatre«. Admission to all theatres is secured by purchasing a ribbon, which also functions as a ticket for the public transport system. All visitors are invited to end the »Long Night of Dresden Theatre« by dancing the night away at the traditional closing party in the Schauspielhaus, starting from midnight.
Of course, the Semperoper will once again be taking part in the event – this year with excerpts from Jacques Offenbach’s opéra bouffe »The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein«.
