As a start until the end of October, Semperoper has developed a schedule of performances in order to be able to offer top-class opera, ballet and concert evenings even in the current situation.
On 29 August, the Staatskapelle Dresden opens the season with »Variation: Opening Concert. Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden«. From 4 September, the opera ensemble will be back on stage for the first time with »Semper Essenz: Il barbiere di Siviglia«, followed by further opera works in concert or semi-staged short versions, concentrating on musical highlights and essential arias and ensembles. Among the selected opera titles are Mozart’s »Die Entführung aus dem Serail/The Abduction from the Seraglio« and »Don Giovanni«, Tchaikovsky’s »Eugen Onegin« as well as Puccini’s »Tosca« and »Madama Butterfly«. Starting in mid-September, the Semperoper Ballett will present the specially compiled gala »Semper Essenz: We will dance!« with excerpts from Aaron S. Watkin’s »The Nutcracker«, William Forsythe’s »Artifact Suite«, Alexander Ekman’s »Cacti« and works by David Dawson, among others, as well as a world premiere by Nicholas Palmquist.
