»Die tote Stadt« with Klaus Florian Vogt

»Die tote Stadt« by Erich Wolfgang Korngold returns to the Semperoper stage for three performances from 15 December 2023. In his visually stunning and emotionally gripping interpretation, director David Bösch tells of Paul’s retreat into his subconscious mind, where reality gives way to a world of dreams and visions.

The role of the widower Paul, paralysed with grief for his dead wife, will be performed by star tenor and celebrated Wagner interpreter Klaus Florian Vogt, who also returns to the Semperoper in January 2024 to make his role debut as Tristan.

He is joined by Vida Miknevičiūtė as Marietta, with Christoph Pohl in the role of Frank/Fritz. Other cast members are Michal Doron appearing as Brigitta, Fernanda Allande as Juliette, Dominika Škrabalová as Lucienne, Jongwoo Hong as Victorin and Jürgen Müller as Count Albert. The soloists are supported by the Semperoper Children’s Choir and the State Opera Chorus.

The Staatskapelle Dresden will be conducted by Dmitri Jurowski, who also led the premiere of this production in December 2017. A making-of video with the conductor is available on our info-page for »Die tote Stadt«.
