The White Rabbit is in a hurry – he’s looking for something but we don’t know what. The Hatter poses riddles to which he himself doesn’t know the answer. And it’s always time for afternoon tea, because it’s always five o’clock. As if that wasn’t already confusing enough, Alice also meets some very odd characters such as the Queen of Hearts, Humpty Dumpty and the brothers Tweedledum and Tweedledee. How did she end up here and why is everything so different to the world she knew before? She feels more alive than ever before and notices that she is changing. When the caterpillar asks »Who are you?«, she is forced to answer: »I hardly know it myself. I must have been swapped several times since getting up this morning.« And who will Alice be when she returns from Wonderland? Julie Stearns’ version of the stories by Lewis Carroll about little Alice provides the basis for a new ballet in Semper Zwei. Five choreographers will recreate the different stages of Alice’s journey, giving each section a unique stylistic and musical character. The conception for this production came from Raphaël Coumes-Marquet, a long-time soloist with Semperoper Ballett. Audiences can look forward to a wide spectrum of dance forms through the various choreographers, with each adventure having its very own language and atmosphere. The scenery also promises another unique experience, as it will be created (in part live on stage) by two Berlin artists using various kinds of adhesive tape.
