Mit der Inszenierung von Vincenzo Bellinis vielschichtigem Meisterwerk stellt Rolando Villazón ein weiteres Mal sein Talent unter Beweis, tiefgründige psychologische Momente und emotionale Nuancen eines Opernwerks als Spiegelbild unserer aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Konflikte herauszustellen. In der aktuellen Produktion enthüllt Villazón die hinter pittoresken Fassaden lauernden Ressentiments einer in sich geschlossenen rustikal-bäuerlichen Dorfgemeinschaft, deren festgefügter Konservatismus zu Aberglaube und Repression führt: Die schaurig-schöne Liebesgeschichte um die traumwandlerische Amina und ihren eifersüchtigen Elvino verbirgt den Freiheitsdrang einer durch Konventionen unterdrückten lebensfrohen Frau in einer restriktiven Welt.
