Women power – the ballerina in the 19th century

The 19th century was the “golden age” of ballerinas – they were admired – and were shaped by male ideals. How do these ideas still influence our image of the classical dancer today?

Ballet Director Kinsun Chan, ballet mistress Young Soon Hue-Simon and dance dramaturge Anna Beke discuss the aesthetic development from romantic ballet in Paris to the imperial Russian style, while first soloist Kanako Fujimoto enchants with excerpts from La Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty and The Dying Swan.

A must for ballet fans – and anyone who wants to become one!

Tickets € 3.5

Pas de deux

Experience the art of the pas de deux up close! Ballet Director Kinsun Chan and dramaturge Julia Bührle discuss the development, technique and various forms of partnering in ballet. Kanako Fujimoto and Moises Carrada Palmero dance a classical pas de deux, after that Kinsun Chan creates a dance piece for them - live on stage.

Everyone is welcome – no previous knowledge required

Practice, practice, practice.

If you have always wanted to know what our dancers' day of training looks like and how a ballet is rehearsed, our third Dance Talk is just right for you. Former star dancer and guest ballet master Cynthia Harvey and choreographer Giovanni Insaudo will talk to our dramaturge Julia Bührle and rehearse excerpts from the repertoire with first soloist Kanako Fujimoto and guest dancer Sandra Salietti. They will even create something live for you!

Dresden. German Expressive Dance. GDR

In 2025, we celebrate 200 years of Semperoper Ballett and the founding of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden by the pioneer of modern dance 100 years ago. This double anniversary provides an opportunity to take a look back at Dresden‘s eventful recent dance history: at the impact of German expressive dance as well as the achievements and challenges of dance in the GDR (DDR). Experts from the fields of dance history, archive work, education and stage dance will reflect together: What has remained? Where has the past led? The discussion will be moderated by dance dramaturge Anna Beke. Everyone interested is cordially invited to this excursion into Dresden‘s multifaceted dance history!
