This Soiree, performed by Semperoper soloists under conductor Johannes Wulff-Woesten, commemorates the life and work of the Dresden composer, pianist and conductor Paul Aron (1886-1955) and his circle. In his concert series entitled »Neue Musik Paul Aron«, which ran from 1921-30, Paul Aron performed more than 200 works by contemporary composers in his hometown before he was forced to emigrate in 1933.
And so the recital features not only works by Paul Aron such as »In Memoriam« – Three Songs on Poems by William Butler Yeats or his settings of Hermann Hesse’s »Vier Herbstlieder« but above all works by his contemporaries, such as the »Jazzettes for violin and piano« by Louis Gruenberg, chansons by Mischa Spoliansky and »Jazzband for violin and piano« by Wilhelm Grosz. As in the previous event »Eine winzige Träne/ A Tiny Tear«, musicologist Dr Agata Schindler will knowledgeably guide the audience through the programme, shedding light on a forgotten chapter of Dresden’s rich musical history.
