Francine Watson Coleman

Artistic Advice

After her training at the London College of Dance and Drama and at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Francine Watson-Coleman was engaged in the ballet of the Salzburg Opera and as First Dancer of the Franz Tenta Renaissance Consort. She taught dance at Christchurch College in Canterbury, was Artistic Director of Studies at London College of Dance and Drama and taught Dance Studies and Philosophical Aesthetics at Laban School in London. Coleman is a renowned specialist in historical dance and epoch-specific styles and rules of behaviour. In her work as a movement teacher for classical theatre, she focuses on the importance of classical theatre for the performance of dramatic texts. As a movement director and choreographer she has worked with a variety of ensembles including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Young Vie, Shared Experience, Theatre Alive, Oxford Playhouse, Theatre Royal Northampton and Abbey Theatre Dublin. As a member of the UK's national cultural institutions, she is on the board of examiners of renowned institutions for theatre, dance and music graduates. Her experience in both the academic and theatrical fields predestines her for developing innovative ideas and concepts for numerous companies. As Chair of the Society for Dance Research UK, she has a capacity in the research and development of dance and dance forms. Francine Watson Coleman is Senior Movement Director of the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. 2019 she has been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. At the Semperoper Dresden she performed in Aaron S. Watkin's story ballets "Sleeping Beauty", "La Bayadère" and "Swan Lake".
