Ballett
The conductor Thomas Herzog was born in Basel. The Swiss national with Hungarian roots studied percussion, composition, and conducting. From 2014 to 2024, he served as the permanent ballet conductor at the Theater Basel. Since 2019, he has regularly conducted ballets at the Semperoper Dresden and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest. In the concert realm, he has a particular affinity for both contemporary music and Spanish composers, especially in the genre of zarzuela. Another focus of his work includes various outreach projects. Since 2010, he has realized several project series with the Kammerorchester Basel and the Sinfonieorchester Basel, which have included various premieres and staged productions. For over 15 years, Thomas Herzog has been a regular guest conductor with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo in Uruguay, and the symphony orchestras in Miskolc, Szeged, and Szombathely in Hungary. He has frequently guest conducted the Hungarian Radio Orchestra in Budapest, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Saarland State Theatre, and the Bern Symphony Orchestra. Recently, he made his debuts with the Spanish Radio Orchestra RTVE in Madrid, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, the Opéra National du Rhin, and the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. In the 2024/25 season, he will make his debut at the Aalto Theater Essen, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and the Opera in Rome. He will return to Dresden in the current season for performances of Peer Gynt, The Nutcracker, and A Swan Lake.
