Lucia Ruprecht

Lucia Ruprecht is a dance and literature researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, and will take up the professorship of dance studies at Freie Universität Berlin from April 2022. Her research is situated at the intersections of theatre dance, literature, film and cultural theory. Numerous publications theamtise, among other things, cultures of the gestural, dance in literature, dance criticism in the 19th century and discourses of virtuosity. Her most recent book is »Gestural Imaginaries: Dance and Cultural Theory in the Early Twentieth Century« (Oxford University Press, 2019); in addition, among others, »Dances of the Self in Heinrich von Kleist, E. T. A. Hoffmann and Heinrich Heine« (2006), »New German Dance Studies« (ed. with Susan Manning, 2012), »Towards an Ethics of Gesture« (ed. 2017). Together with Bettina Brandl-Risi, she is currently preparing the "Handbuch Literatur & Performance" (de Gruyter, 2023). From 2013 to 2015, she was a Humboldt Research Scholar at the Institute for Theatre Studies at the Free University of Berlin, and in 2016, she was an Inaugural Visiting Research Scholar at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University in Philadelphia.
