John Lam

John Lamstudied dance at the Marin Ballet in San Rafael, CA, and at the school of the National Ballet of Canada. In 2003, he joined the Boston Ballet where he was promoted to Soloist in 2008 and to Principal Dancer in 2014, and performed in leading roles and multiple creations. In 2005, he was awarded the Princess Grace Fellowship. In addition to his stage work, Lam has choreographed and produced an array of independent dance films including Dance Is, Movement in Structure, SHE/I, Moving pArts, The Gift, The Air Before Me, and Quiet. Lam appeared in the Disney film The Game Plan, performed the role of Ariel in the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Production of The Tempest, and appeared as a Principal Dancer in the Amazon Prime Series, Étoile. In Fall 2024, Lam was appointed Associate Professor of Dance with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. As an extension of Lam's commitment to the arts, Lam Dance Works, a nonprofit dance organization was established in 2024 to engage and inspire members of the community through the collaborative production of innovative dance works reflecting the full spectrum of artistic expression for years to come.
