Christoph Schmädicke

Light Design

Born in Dresden, Christoph Schmädicke began working as a lighting technician at Schauspielhaus Dresden in November 1985. Having successfully concluded a training as a lighting technician in 1992, he became technical director at the Schnawwl Children's and Youth Theatre, a division of the Mannheim National Theatre, Germany, where he also created the lighting for new productions. Since the 1995/96 season, he has been working as a lighting technician with Semperoper Dresden. From 2003, he has been additionally employed as the deputy head of the lighting department and also as a technical scheduler since 2008. During this period, Mr Schmädicke has been responsible for numerous new productions, especially for the Semperoper Ballett, designing the lighting for »Wozzeck«, »Zwischenraum«, »Cinderella«, »Labyrinth« and »Alice« at the Semper Zwei venue. Furthermore, he supervised Semperoper guest performances in Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Palermo, Barcelona, Basel, St. Petersburg, Gothenburg, Imatra, New York, Ottawa, Tokyo and Yokohama, among others. In the 2023/24 season, he is responsible for the lighting for George Balanchine's "Serenade", among other things. (Status: 2024)
