Akram Khan is one of the most celebrated dance artists of our time. Over the course of more than two decades, he has created a body of work that has made a significant contribution to the arts scene in the United Kingdom and beyond. His best-known productions include Jungle Book Reimagined, Outwitting the Devil, XENOS, Until the Lions and Giselle, which he choreographed for the English National Ballet. Khan is known for collaborating with artists from various disciplines, including Juliette Binoche, Sylvie Guillem, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and the indie rock band Florence and the Machine. His works are renowned for their moving narrative style, which is both intimate and epic. A highlight of his career was the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which was received with great acclaim. Khan has obtained numerous awards, including two Laurence Olivier Awards, the Bessie Award and the South Bank Sky Arts Award. In 2005, he was awarded an MBE for his services to dance. Recent projects include the creation of Creature for the English National Ballet and his role as Associate Artist of Sadler's Wells. In 2022, he was appointed Chancellor of De Montfort University and is also an honorary graduate of several universities, including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Khan remains an inspiring figure on the international dance scene.
