The aim of Peter Theiler’s programming for the Semperoper is to renew the repertoire and expand the operatic canon to include rarely performed works. To this end, he brings important yet unfamiliar works to Dresden audiences, revives unjustly forgotten masterpieces of French »grand opéra«, commissions premiere projects and promotes contemporary chamber opera. In addition, Peter Theiler is committed to maintaining the brilliant tradition of the Semperoper by cultivating the work of two composers indelibly linked to Dresden’s opera house: Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.
Throughout his career, Peter Theiler has always promoted upcoming stage directors, giving them the opportunity to bring their own unique perspective on the standard operatic repertoire. In this way, a number of important young directors have made their debut at the Semperoper in recent years. Of course, lively and diverse music theatre also lives from and with its audience. Therefore, the Semperoper has intensified its engagement with its visitors on various levels, as well as its educational programme. The Semperoper is in dialogue with its audience, with the people of Dresden and its foreign guests… and with the visitors of tomorrow.
