200 years of »Der Freischütz«

Romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber

To mark the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Carl Maria von Weber’s »Der Freischütz« in Berlin in 1821, the Historical Archive is organising an exhibition in the vestibule of the opera house. Only a few months after the premiere, Weber, who at the time was Kapellmeister and Director of the Deutsche Oper at the Royal Saxon Court Theatre, conducted his »Freischütz« on Dresden’s opera stage. With a total of nearly 1,500 performances, this work is not only the most frequently programmed opera in Dresden, but also a milestone in the history of the Saxon State Opera.
