René Pape

Soloist (Guest)

Born in Dresden, René Pape’s initial musical training was as a member of the city’s Kreuzchor (boys’ choir) before studying at the local Carl Maria von Weber College of Music. Today he is one of classical music’s most popular and fêted singers. In 1988 he joined the company of Berlin’s State Opera, and in subsequent years he has sung numerous great bass roles, such as Sarastro (»Die Zauberflöte«), Rocco (»Fidelio«), King Heinrich (»Lohengrin«), Fafner (»Das Rheingold«), Pogner (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«), King Marke (»Tristan und Isolde«) or Ramfis (»Aida«). He is a much sought-after guest singer at all the world’s top venues, including the MET, the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals, Vienna’s State Opera and the Semper Opera.
