»Nangijala« is the name of the far away land where small, terminally ill Karl will go once he leaves this earth. His older brother Jonathan tells him that there, Karl will be strong and healthy and that many heroic deeds await him. Jonathan, however, dies in an attempt to save his little brother from the burning house. Karl also dies shortly thereafter and they are both reunited in »Nangijala« where they, as Brothers Lionheart, fight the evil tyrant Tengil. This touching story by children´s book author Astrid Lindgren, first published in Germany in 1974, shifts back and forth between being a child and growing up, between the darkness of death and the light of hope. The award-winning composer Helmut Oehring has adapted this moving novel to the stage. Cooperating with the first musical theater worldwide to perform the adaptation of Lindgren’s famous work »The Brothers Lionheart«, Helmut Oehring and his librettist Stefanie Wördemann continue their joint efforts to transform performers´ and audiences´ perspective and mindset, inviting them to see and hear things differently than before.
