Welcome to our Scandinavian highlights

Dear group customers and business partners,

we are always delighted when our Scandinavian guests come to visit us at the Semperoper. We also love to draw inspiration from Scandinavian artists. So today, we would like to take you on a little musical journey through our fall and winter program and present you our Nordic highlights. Perhaps we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon?

We begin our musical journey to Scandinavia on November 2 with the Semper Soirée – Northern Lights, featuring works by Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, but also by composers less well known in Germany, such as Hugo Alfvén and Ture Rangström.

From November 16 to 29 there will be a highly anticipated role debut: Finnish star soprano Camilla Nylund will sing Turandot for the first time – a princess who is as desirable as she is dangerous. Finnish soprano Marjukka Tepponen, member of the ensemble at the Semperoper since the 2024/25 season, will be seen as Liù in Turandot.
Tepponen will also be seen on the premiere stage in
January and February 2026 as Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites) and in June as Micaëla (Carmen).

The end of the year will be magical: the premiere of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen's The Snow Queen will bring Jessica Niles and Valerie Eickhoff, as well as Korean-Canadian countertenor David DQ Lee, to the stage. In this fairy-tale new production, none other than Kammersänger Georg Zeppenfeld will fascinate the audiences in a highly unusual role as the ice-cold Snow Queen and will cast his spell over the audience. Danish-New Zealand soprano Louise McClelland Jacobsen takes on the role of Gerda on January 5 and 8.

Swedish singer Miriam Andersén is a sought-after performer of medieval music and an expert on Swedish folk music and its roots. In Gothenburg, she appeared in a role specially composed for her in the stage creation "Noetic" by choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

„Noetic“ examines our instinctive human need to create structure, tied to the desire to break free of the rules and features a mix of emotional and harmonious music, Japanese drums and Miriam Andersén as vocal soloist. "Noetic" is part of Vice Versa, a two-part ballet evening that also provides a brand-new work by siblings Imre and Marne van Opstal, whose multi-layered and often surreal approach to dance is hugely popular around the world. Vice Versa will be performed on stage at the Semperoper from March 6 to 19.
