The Staatskapelle Dresden. Founded in 1548 by Elector Moritz of Saxony as his court orchestra and thus one of the oldest orchestras with one of the richest traditions in the world. In every period right up to the present day: one of the world’s leading ensembles.
The one-time court orchestra: to this day marked by major conductors and internationally regarded instrumentalists.
Glowing examples: the composers Heinrich Schütz, Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner as well as conductors like Ernst von Schuch, Fritz Busch and Giuseppe Sinopoli.
The quality of the Staatskapelle: documented on numerous recordings since the early 1920’s as well as regular extensive touring activity in the great music centers of the world.
