Dorina e Nibbio

In the 2012/13 season the Semperoper intends to continue its »Intermezzi« series of interludes arranged for chamber ensemble. It is hoped that these works, originally short entertainments inserted between the acts of large-scale operas, will appeal both to the casual visitor and newcomers to the world of opera. Following on from »Il tutore« and »La Dirindina – The Dilettante Diva«, audiences can now look forward to Domenico Sarro’s two-part intermezzo »Dorina e Nibbio«, written in 1724. The original story by Pietro Metastasio tells of the impresario Nibbio who wishes to make the vocally talented village girl Dorina the star of his latest production. During the rehearsals, however, Dorina increasingly feels herself exploited and humiliated. The end result: a public scandal at the premiere.
