Dresden has always been a Mecca for art. Since the 19th century it has positioned itself on the foreground of European culture with some of the greatest and controversial artists such as Richard Wagner, Otto Dix, Gret Palucca or Richard Strauss cultivating an intimate relationship with our city.
Throughout the past decades, most cultural institutions here in Dresden have been working very much on individual basis. However, we are proud to have just experienced how magical a performance can be when Dresden’s numerous and wonderful institutions of art collaborate together.
For four shows of »The Inner Voice«, choreographed by our Principal Jiří Bubeniček, musically coordinated by Isang Enders of the Staatskapelle and dramaturgically accompanied by Michaela Angelopoulos collaborated with many different institutions. The performances included dancers and apprentices of the Semperoper Ballett, a singer of the Young Ensemble of the Semperoper, musicians from the Staatskapelle, the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle, the Liszt School of Music Weimar and the Dresden University of Music Carl Maria von Weber, as well as an actor from the Staatsschauspiel Dresden.
Set in the Albertinum, the Saxon State Art Collection – Sculpture Collection, Jiří Bubeniček, world acclaimed dancer and choreographer, created an event full of beauty and emotions inspired by Auguste Rodin's statue »The Inner Voice« and Victor Hugo's poem of the same name. The event being the first performances of our newly created »On the move« programme, was a full success, breaking the record of visitors coming to the Albertinum!
