Juliane Schunke

Dramaturgy

Born in Weimar/ Germany, Juliane Schunke studied art history, theatre studies and literature in Leipzig. From 2008 to 2016, she was employed with Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen/ Germany as a dramaturge for opera and ballet. During this period of time, she was involved in numerous repertoire productions and world premieres – including the internet opera »Manon« and the world premiere of the ballet »Charlotte Salomon – Death and the Painter« by Bridget Breiner that was awarded the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST too. Ms Schunke was responsible for the »Hör.Oper project – audio description for blind and visually impaired people« and acted as a moderator on many occasions. From 2016 to 2023, she was dramaturge for opera and ballet at the Semperoper Dresden/ Germany, where she accompanied productions ranging from classical opera to ballet performances as well as from contemporary dance to current music theatre productions. Juliane Schunke worked with stage directors such as Dietrich W. Hilsdorf, Michiel Dijkema, Barbora Horáková-Joly, Laura Scozzi and Rolando Villazón, as well as with choreographers such as Bridget Breiner, David Dawson, Demis Volpi, Aaron S. Watkin and Johan Inger. Since the 2023/24 season, she has been employed as an opera and ballet dramaturge with Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg gGmbH/Germany. (Status: 2023)
