Schneewitte / Snow White

Jens Joneleit

Music theatre for everyone aged 7 and above by Sophie Kassies and Jens Joneleit

When the Queen dies shortly after giving birth to a girl, the King is left alone with the screaming child. A beautiful woman comforts the baby Snow White. »Gradually she also manages to comfort the King,« says the actor; and as for the King: »I am in love with you.« Snow White is growing up; she wants to be like her beloved stepmother, who smiles at her through the mirror. »Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?«  asks the Queen. At first the answer is obvious, but then Snow White begins to blossom: One day the mirror decides that she is the fairest of them all. Now a self-assured teenager, Snow White takes centre stage and demands the throne as rightfully hers. Clearly she’s heading for trouble. Meanwhile, the king is annoyed by his jealous wife, who finally hits the roof: »I’m not going to let myself be sidelined by this idiot girl.« So the hunter is ordered to murder Snow White, yet she has some good counter-arguments: »I’m far too young! I haven’t really got started! I haven’t even found my prince yet!«. Alone in the Siebenberge Forest she meets seven cunning dwarves …

This funny and streetwise new version of the classic fairy tale, devised by Sophie Kassies and composer Jens Joneleit, is told by four musicians, two female singers and two actors. This is scintillating music theatre featuring contemporary classical music infused with jazz and pop.
