Award winners: Set and costume designer Johannes Leiacker and soprano Mariya Taniguchi
The »Phoenix Award of the founder and benefactor of the Semperoper Foundation, Senator h.c. Rudi Häussler« honours outstanding artists who belong to or are closely associated with the Semperoper. The Foundation aims to promote artistic excellence and diversity at Saxon State Opera, thereby helping to maintain its rich cultural heritage. The prize, which has been awarded since 1993, is intended to further enhance the international reputation of the Semperoper in a truly special way. Previous recipients have been Christian Thielemann, Evelyn Herlitzius, Georg Zeppenfeld, the Semperoper Ballett, Jón Vallejo and Omer Meir Wellber. This year’s prize goes to the acclaimed set and costume designer Johannes Leiacker, who has been closely associated with the Semperoper for over 25 years.
Furthermore, this year the Semperoper Foundation will once again award the »Curt Taucher Prize« to a highly talented young artist in recognition of their achievements to date and to provide encouragement for their future career. Award winner will be the soprano Mariya Taniguchi.
