Festive Music at Christmas

Semperoper am Theaterplatz in der Dämmerung, in der Exedra leuchtet ein Weihnachtsbaum.

Dresden, 14 December 2021. Yesterday evening the Semperoper hosted the recording of a festive song recital to be streamed from 24 to 26 December 2021. Entitled »Und den Menschen hienieden sei Frieden«, fans around the world can enjoy a programme of yuletide music streamed directly into their homes, featuring classical works as well as familiar Christmas carols performed by company soloists. One firm favourite will, of course, be the »Abendsegen« from Humperdinck’s classic fairy-tale opera »Hänsel und Gretel«.

But before this event, opera lovers can look forward to the double bill of Pietro Mascagni’s »Cavalleria rusticana« and Ruggero Leoncavallo’s »Pagliacci« in the production by Philipp Stölzl. The Dresden premiere under the baton of Christian Thielemann, principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden, took place at the Semperoper on 16 January 2016. On the 4th Advent weekend, the Semperoper’s co-production with the Salzburg Easter Festival can be enjoyed online.
