New offer: Performances with Audio Description

Exedra der Semperoper mit Dionysos und Ariadne auf der Pantherquadriga von Johannes Schilling

In order to make an evening at the opera as pleasant as possible for every audience member, the Semperoper is expanding its barrier-free opera service for the blind and visually impaired. From this season, the Semperoper is providing audio descriptions at selected opera events in its programme. Created by non-sighted and sighted authors, these audio descriptions are specially adapted to each performance and are designed to convey not only the on-stage action but also to give an impression of the set and costumes.

This service is supplemented by pre-performance haptic tours offering an explanation of the work and production as well as a tactile exploration of props, costumes and wigs.

Tickets for the haptic tours and audio descriptions (which can only be purchased from our visitor service) are free of charge but only valid in conjunction with a standard opera ticket for the relevant performance. This offer is restricted to visually impaired or blind visitors and their accompanying persons or family members.

The Semperoper’s new service is now available for the following performances in the 2023/24 season:

»The Magic Flute«
Sat, 11 November 2023, 7 pm
Sun, 10 December 2023, 7 pm

»Hänsel und Gretel«
Sat, 2 December 2023, 7 pm

»La bohème«
Mon, 25 December 2023, 7 pm
