The return of »A Midsummer Night’s Dream«

The double ballet evening »A Midsummer Night’s Dream«, which successfully premiered last season, returns to the Semperoper stage on 22 June. This gives audiences another chance to enjoy Frederick Ashton’s classic narrative ballet »The Dream” based on William Shakespeare’s comedy along with David Dawson’s choreographic exploration of Vivaldi’s »The Four Seasons«. The juxtaposition of these two very different pieces reveals the versatility of Aaron S. Watkin’s company. Dreamy, inventive, energetic, almost trance-like, the dancers will interpret the required facets of dance at the highest level.

Guest soloist Marcelo Gomes, who recently appeared in »Swan Lake«, will perform the role of Oberon in »The Dream« on 22 and 26 June. At his side will be Elena Karpuhina, making her role debut as the fairy queen Titania. The Staatskapelle Dresden will be conducted by Benjamin Pope. The solo violin part in »The Four Seasons« will be played by Simos Papanas, concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphonic Orchestra since 2003.
