»Le nozze di Figaro« in February and March

A hopeless lover is Contessa d'Almaviva, embodied by Iulia Maria Dan in »Le nozze di Figaro/The Marriage of Figaro«. And at the same time a figure with an enormous potential: »I quite like the ending in this production of Johannes Erath, the Countess takes life into her own hands and decides to leave an unsatisfying arrangement. That takes courage and shows a modern approach, which I am very happy and excited to portray«, says the young Romanian, who has been a member of the soloist ensemble of the Semper Opera since this season. But to this end, Mozart and Da Ponte composed a highly amusing, comedic intrigue that subliminally tells of a melancholic longing for love. On February 5th, Mozart's milestone in opera history and audience favourite returns to the Semperoper for six performances.

Director Johannes Erath made his debut in Dresden with this staging of »Le nozze di Figaro« in the 2014/15 season. The production was also invited to the prestigious Savonlinna Opera Festival in July 2015 and has subsequently appeared regularly on the Semperoper programme. In the six performances in February and March 2019, Sebastian Wartig and Christoph Pohl will perform the role of Count Almaviva, with Iulia Maria Dan and Ute Selbig at their side as Countess Almaviva. Adriana Kučerová and Martin-Jan Nijhof or Evan Hughes will play troubled lovers Susanna and Figaro, who finally find happiness after various amorous twists and turns. The Staatskapelle will play under the baton of Moritz Gnann.
