The return of »Die tote Stadt«

David Bösch’s staging of »Die tote Stadt« was one of the most successful productions of the past season (note: Bösch’s production of Verdi’s »Nabucco« is currently premiering at the Semperoper). On 31 May and 4 June, the opera by Erich Wolfgang Korngold returns to the programme of the Semperoper under the baton of Dmitri Jurowski. This haunting psychodrama tells the story of the main character Paul, who, numb with grief for his deceased wife Marie, seems to find a path back to happiness through his encounter with the dancer Marietta. Audiences are promised a thrilling evening of opera featuring Korngold’s intoxicating music, intense drama in David Bösch’s sensual production as well as first-rate soloists!
