The celebrated singer Tosca lives for art alone until political events suddenly invade the life of the artist and her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, engulfing them in a wave of violence and betrayal. Director Johannes Schaaf has found a timeless narrative style for this work: For the 11th season in a row, his production can be enjoyed on the stage of the Semperoper. In February 2020, the internationally acclaimed soprano Angela Gheorghiu will perform the role of Floria Tosca, which she has already sung at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera and the Berlin State Opera. She will be joined by the award-winning tenor Teodor Ilincăi, singing the role of Cavaradossi, while Baron Scarpia is performed by Alexey Markov. The Staatskapelle Dresden will play under the baton of Giampaolo Bisanti.
