Volkswagen Group as partner of Semperoper and Sächsische Staatskapelle
Volkswagen Group is among Germany’s most important companies and one of the leading global makers of cars and commercial vehicles. This position brings with it a comprehensive understanding of responsibility, which the company fulfills in a multi-facetted way. Encouraging art and culture plays a crucial role here, because together they endow a society with the necessary urgency to shape progress.
The Gläserne Manufaktur in the heart of Dresden shines a light into the future of mobility, turning it into something like a germ cell for the sustainable focus of Volkswagen AG´s global enterprise. At the same time, Saxony’s state capital Dresden is also home to the Semperoper Dresden and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden as two vibrant cultural sources of inspiration. Volkswagen AG has long been a partner of both institutions, enabling an audience of hundreds of thousands to experience the exhilarating power of music.
Within this role Volkswagen enables the continuous development of educational and youth talent programs for the opera and the orchestra. This sponsorship fuses the fascination of masterful music with the creative force of a younger generation. »Experiencing art and culture can make a difference for people. But this is only possible if the necessary platforms are in place. Music creates unforgettable moments, and we would like to share this experience with as many people as possible. Awakening an understanding is the first step toward a sense of just how much empowerment resides within creativity«, says Benita von Maltzahn, Head of Culture and Society within Volkswagen Group Communications, about the cooperation’s goal.
For this reason Volkswagen AG is the main/key partner of the Sächsische Staatskapelle for the series »Kapelle for Kids« as well as for the organization of the series »KLASSIK PICKNICKT«, which thanks to its innovative format has drawn a large number of people to an appreciation of classical music. Volkswagen AG also provides support for the work of this orchestra ranging from the Salzburg Easter Festival to other international performances. Within the Semperoper, funding by Volkswagen AG has laid the groundwork for »Junge Szene« as an established feature of program planning.
Volkswagen AG is committed to promoting art and culture on a global scale. For many years Volkswagen Group America has partnered with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and MoMA PS 1 in New York. Apart from this, the company has also supported the work of Nationalgalerie - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Volkswagen Group China is one of the leading cultural sponsors in China, most recently establishing a special program for young classical musicians and an exchange platform for Chinese orchestras.
