Carmen Kovacs studied music theatre at the University of Bayreuth and theatre studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. She then wrote as a freelance dance journalist for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, tanz and Crescendo, for tanznetz.de and the Dance Festival Munich. In 2020, she worked as a guest lecturer at the LMU Munich and accompanied a production at the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. From 2019 to 2021, she was a jury member of the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance, and in 2020 and 2022 for the Förderpreis Tanz of the City of Munich. Carmen Kovacs has been a ballet and opera dramaturge at Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2020/21 season.
