For many music lovers around the world the name «Staatskapelle Dresden» is defined by the ensemble’s many recordings, including now legendary productions under such conductors as Böhm, Karajan, Kleiber and Sinopoli. The orchestra continues to record today, joined by classical music’s stars in the familiar surroundings of Dresden’s Lukaskirche (St. Luke’s Church). Recent CD productions have featured Grimaud, Salonen, Quasthoff, Lang Lang and opera’s dream pairing of Netrebko/Villazón. Over the coming years Music Director Fabio Luisi will conduct the Staatskapelle in a project to record all of Strauss’s orchestral works for Sony/BMG, using the latest SACD recording technology. This will be the first comprehensive review since Rudolf Kempe’s classic recordings from the 1970s. Listeners can also look forward to further musical jewels from the series «Edition Staatskapelle Dresden» on the music label «Profil Edition Günter Hänssler», produced in cooperation with our partner MDR Figaro.
