Chamber performance provides the basis for the homogeneous playing and unique clarity of the Kapelle sound. The series «Chamber Music of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden» was inaugurated more than 155 years ago with the «Dresden Musical Society». At that time the aim of orchestra members was to perform «chamber music of all periods, even the latest» with no regard to financial reward. That has remained true to the current day: a democratically elected chamber music committee organises the diverse programme, and all concerts are performed in addition to normal orchestral duties. Eight chamber concerts and four evening recitals (where small-scale orchestral works can be heard) are planned for this season. Following the original intention of the Musical Society to perform new music, a particular highlight will be performances of works by this year’s «Capell-Compositrice».
