Le nozze di Figaro / The Marriage of Figaro

Honestly now! Who is more scheming, in your opinion- men or women? What would you do if your bride first had to sleep with someone else on your wedding night? You dream of secret affairs? Have you ever been sure you were being cheated on by your girlfriend but you couldn´t prove it? Do you find young people more attractive than older ones? Love is the most important thing in your life? This is the year 1786. New sounds are looming on the horizon. A count pretends to be modern, yet is after only one thing. A bored Countess is entangled in dangerous liaisons, a servant tries his hand at rebellion - and Mozart composes music for an ideal: love and sex are on an equal footing. That´s Susanna! Yet in the end, the amazing day is once again as it should be, the revolution appears to be over before it has actually taken place. Still - the facade is marred because this utopia of desire remains indelibly etched in your ear and heart.
Mozart's Marriage of Figaro plays with the idea of revolution in the theater. What begins as a clumsy masquerade is suddenly credible despite its comic effect and anticipates the final bourgeois tragedy. Are we truly freer today?
