Zachary Nelson erhielt seine Gesangsausbildung an der Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. Der junge Bariton wird mit Beginn der Spielzeit 2013/14 ins Ensemble der Semperoper aufgenommen. Er erhielt zahlreiche Preise und Auszeichnungen, unter anderem 2012 bei der George London Vocal Competition (1. Preis), der Liederkranz Competition und Opera Index Vocal Competition; 2011 bei der Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition (2. Preis), Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition, Loren L. Zachary Society Vocal Competition (2. Preis) sowie bei den Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (New England).
Sein Repertoire umfasst Partien wie Golaud (»Pelléas et Mélisande«), Masetto (»Don Giovanni«), Mandryka (»Arabella«), Haushofmeister (»Capriccio«), Sciarrone (»Tosca«), Don Alfonso (»Così fan tutte«), Achilla und Curio (»Giulio Cesare«), Belcore (»L’elisir d’amore«), Marcello (»La bohème«), Morales und Escamillo (»Carmen«) sowie die Titelpartie in »Falstaff«. 2011/12 debütierte er an der Lyric Opera of Virginia als Germont in »La traviata« und sang an der Santa Fe Opera Angelotti in »Tosca«. Dort singt er im Sommer 2013 Figaro in »Le nozze di Figaro«, 2014 wird er an der Washington National Opera mit »La bohème« debütieren.
An der Semperoper singt er unter anderem in »Così fan tutte«, »Zauberflöte«, »Le nozze die Figaro«, »La bohème«, »Il barbiere die Siviglia« und »Turandot«.
