The goldsmith Cardillac, who is as brilliant as he is successful, cannot part from his most beautiful works. As he occasionally has to make a sale, he gets back what originally belonged to him by means of murder. No-one suspects anything of his double life as an honest man and a murderer, until he lets out the secret himself.
