Sir Falstaff, an anarchic freeloader, loves life. He writes identical love letters to two rich women – this leads to a rendezvous that, due to the husband bursting in, culminates with a trip in a washing basket that ends in the Thames. Mulled wine and a fresh invitation to a rendezvous in the park under the oak tree reinvigorate him. He arrives to come upon the incensed citizenry who, dressed as fairies, want to teach him a lesson. But he who laughs last laughs best.
