The hunt for love drives the characters in this opera. Don Giovanni, who has had 2065 conquests, loses his touch. Tormented by his own drive, by loving or jealous women or by their men, he finds refuge in a cemetery. He invites the commander that he has murdered to an evening meal. The stony guest appears and urges repentance, which Giovanni refuses. The opera ends with a unique musical journey to Hell.
