Belmonte manages, unrecognized, to get a post in the palace of the Bassa Selim where his bride Konstance, her maid Blonde and his servant Pedrillo are being held captive. The Pasha desires Konstance’s love, but her heart belongs to Belmont. After some cunning ruses it seems that the lovers will succeed in escaping from the seraglio, but at the last moment their plans are foiled by Osmin, the Bassa’s overseer. In the end Bassa Selim forgives all and sundry and allows the couple to return home.
