Mihkel Kütson studied in Tallin and Hamburg. In 1998 he was appointed principal guest conductor of »Vanemuine« Theatre in Tartu, Estonia, before becoming its music director from 1999 to 2004. Since 2001 he has worked closely with the State Opera in Hanover, first as guest conductor, and from 2002 to 2006 as associate conductor. In August 2004 he directed the company’s performance of Verdi’s »Il trovatore« at the Edinburgh International Festival. In October 2006 he was awarded the German Conductors’ Prize. From the 2007/2008 season he has been music director of the Schleswig-Holstein Landestheater. As a guest conductor Mihkel Kütson has collaborated with the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra as well as Berlin’s German Symphony Orchestra.
