At the heart of this cooperative venture between the Semperoper and the Roland Berger Foundation are 150 talented children and teenagers between the ages of 7 and 18. These socially disadvantaged kids from Saxony, Thuringia and Hessen will have the chance to work behind, on and in front of the stage as part of the FairTalent programme, made possible by the generous support of Deutsche Bank. The premiere in Dresden will be the culmination of several intensive rehearsal phases spread out over one year. The start is planned for July 2011.
The work selected for the project is a story by the native Dresden writer Erich Kästner entitled »The Conference of Animals«. A new version of the story will be created and a composer commissioned to write an accompanying score with the approval of the Kästner estate and the work’s publishers. The project will also involve the collaboration of a choreographer. The end result will be a stage work perfectly tailored to the singing, acting and dancing abilities of the young performers.
