Welcome

Ladies and Gentlemen,

my vision:

Breaking down the borders that traditionally exist between classical and contemporary dance and redefining dance as a culmination of both.

Season 2009|2010. It is unbelievable to me that I am writing to introduce our 4th season of the Dresden SemperOperBallett. Time has passed by so quickly that when I think back to what we have accomplished over the last three seasons, it seems quite impossible. In retrospective, I have focused mainly on internal growth and development by improving the artistic and technical level of our dancers, creating a «company culture» and building up a diverse, vibrant repertoire.

A big accent has been placed on Public Relations in collaboration with our Publicity & Marketing department through our new corporate design, website, YouTube, annual Season Programmes etc.

«First comes the school, then the company», stated George Balachine. With this famous quote in mind, Professor Jason Beechey, Rector of the Palucca School - College of Dance, and myself have been working diligently to realize this idea that the school could eventually feed our company. Together, we have developed a dynamic one-year apprentice program between our two institutions to educate dancers and assist in their integration into the professional dance world.

Looking ahead to the next chapter of our existence in the years to come, I will focus mainly on our international presence not only through press but also by touring our company abroad. After some small but very successful tours within Germany, we had the opportunity to present a group of our soloists for the first time in the U.S.A at the Dance Salad Festival in Houston.

I will continue building upon our classical repertoire, commissioning new contemporary creations as well as adding existing works. I will strive to have the creative impulses from the Dresden SemperOperBallett inspiring and leading the dance scene worldwide.

I welcome you to come and experience the personality and magic of the Dresden SemperOperBallett first hand, a three-dimensional harmony of sight, sound and emotions.

With warm regards,
Aaron Sean Watkin
Artistic Director
