Dresden is Tanzplan city! As one of nine cities that were selected for Tanzplan, Dresden was successful in defining mutual objectives for contemporary dance which led to the development of projects and raised considerable funds. Tanzplan Dresden is an initiative of Tanzplan Deutschland and receives 50% match funding from the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
For Tanzplan Dresden three renowned cultural institutions from Dresden joined up to work together in a less bureaucratic way. The project is supported by the City of Dresden’s Board for Culture and Heritage Protection, the Cultural Foundation of Saxony, the Friends of Hellerau e.V. and the Cultural Foundation of the Dresdner Bank.
All three artistic partners - Dresden Semperoper Ballet, European Centre for the Arts Dresden HELLERAU and Palucca Schule Dresden - College of Dance are dedicated to supporting and promoting young artists through experimental and interdisciplinary productions with dance as well as complementary education embracing theory and practice.
Every year Tanzplan Dresden realizes different dance productions, organises two workshops in winter (ImproWinter) and summer (Sommerwerkstatt) and trainings at the Palucca-Schule in Dresden.
Each year Tanzplan Dresden developes two dance productions, one for the studio of the Semperoper (semper kleine szene) and one for the Festspielhaus Dresden Hellerau, aimed to tour lateron. In the Festspielhaus Dresden Hellerau experienced choreographers work together with graduates and students of dance. Tanzplan Dresden regularly give grants for the realization of projects in the semper kleine szene. Young choreographers from all over the world can apply for them with their interdisciplinary concepts. During the production period of two months the chosen young talents are supported by a mentor.
The central theme of the winter workshop (ImproWinter) is improvisation. Different techniques of improvisation in dance are complemented by different approaches to improvisation in theatre, music, visual art, architecture, and new media.
During one week professional dancers, students of dance, dance education and choreography as well as artists and scientist of different branches are offered the opportunity to explore creatively the boundaries between art, science and technology and exceed these limits by improvisation.
The summer workshop (Sommerwerkstatt) takes place during the summer holidays and presents a platform of international and interdisciplinary exchange to dancers, artists and students of different disciplines. Exploring dance as an art form with a rich vocabulary and that advances while exchanging with various types of art is also a key focus during the summer workshop
Work scholarships for young choreographers, so-called Creative Residencies, complete the choice.
Tanzplan Dresden wants to set new impulses for Modern Dance in Dresden. Two production teams were looked after to come to Dresden and create a new project during six weeks rehearsal time in April – June 2010, to be performed at the studio theatre of the Semperoper, semper kleine szene. The production will be supported with a total sum of 40,000 euros. Young choreographers with interdisciplinary production teams could apply for this support programme for 2010 granted by Tanzplan Dresden. Application deadline was 15th September 2009.
Nearly 6o applications reached Tanzplan Dresden. Finally at the end of November the committee which consists of the artistic leaders of Tanzplan Dresden announced the winners: the team around Leandro Kees who lives in Essen and originally comes from Argentina and the one of Juraj Korec, a Slovakian choreograph. Tanzplan Dresden is looking forward to meeting the two selected teams at the end of April 2010 in Dresden.
