Semperoper Ballett shows its transparent side when this year, for the very first time, the »Young Choreographers« event comes to Volkswagen’s famous glass-walled automobile factory. Yes, the ballet company is once again »on the move«. Against this spacious, open backdrop, visitors will have the chance to experience individual dancers »changing sides«, no longer stage performers, but rather creators of their own newly devised choreographies. As in previous years, the format offers ensemble members the opportunity to expand their field of activities: As choreographers they are required to invent new forms of movement and means of expression. This involves not just the initial creative inspiration, but also the process of realising a finished work together with the assistance and support of fellow ensemble members. Independent choreographic miniatures are created, which, in terms of the variety of styles, thematic content and, of course, choice of music, are tremendously broad in scope. When such works are assembled within one programme, we are reminded that dance is an art form without borders. The audience is invited to experience new impulses issuing from these young artists, to set off on a sensual voyage into the unknown, to engage with the unconventional and, perhaps, to enjoy the work of a young would-be choreographer launching into a new career.
