Along with her nutcracker, the twelve year-old Marie is guided through the world of ballet by ballet master Drosselmeier. Childish naivety mingles within the girl with the exciting discoveries of growing up. Freed from traditional Christmas clichés of the original fairytale, the story and Tchaikovsky’s gloriously colourful music have been transposed into the fantastic world of the theatre.
