Every two years the Dance Education Biennale brings together ten of Germany’s public dance institutes in order to exchange ideas and experiences, for a joint training programme and to collaborate in diverse workshops. Now, from 15 to 23 February, 2014, this training initiative is being held for the first time in Dresden, hosted by the Palucca College of Dance. Another first: dance institutes from other countries have been invited, for example from St. Petersburg, Toronto and New York. Artistic presentations, lectures, workshops and practical training during the one week event foster a lively exchange between students, tutors, guest artists and scientists. On two evenings members of the public are invited to visit the Semperoper to learn about the state of dance education in Germany. Each dance institute will present their own choreography, whether classical or contemporary, and discuss their work directly with the audience. Accompanying the Biennale is a diverse programme of events organised by Semperoper Ballett and the Forsythe Company at the Festspielhaus in Hellerau. Furthermore, a special exhibition at the German Museum of Hygiene will take a closer look at the aesthetic, cultural and social aspects of dance. Welcome to Dresden, the City of Dance!
