Der gebürtige Norweger studierte an der Musikhochschule in Oslo und an der Opernschule in Stockholm. 1981 debütierte er als Ferrando (»Così fan tutte«) an der Königlichen Oper in Stockholm. Konzerte und Operntourneen führten ihn in die USA, die Schweiz, nach Österreich und Deutschland. Darüber hinaus absolvierte er zahlreiche Gastspiele in Wiesbaden, München, Lissabon und Bern sowie Auftritte bei den Sommerfestspielen in Wien und Salzburg. 1991 gab er sein Debüt an der Semperoper Dresden als Hoffmann in »Les contes d’Hoffmann«. Zunächst als ständiger Gast und seit 2002 als Mitglied des Solistenensembles der Semperoper trat er in zahlreichen Partien wie Narraboth (»Salome«), Basilio (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Walther von der Vogelweide (»Tannhäuser«), Erster Geharnischter und Monostatos (»Die Zauberflöte«) sowie als Bob Boles (»Peter Grimes«) auf.
