Aaron Sean Watkin wurde im Cowichan Valley, British Columbia/Kanada geboren. Seine Karriere als Tänzer begann in namhaften Companys, wie dem Kanadischen Nationalballett, dem Englischen Nationalballett oder dem Nationalen Ballett der Niederlande. Nach sieben Jahren klassischen Repertoires lud ihn William Forsythe ein, an seinem Ballett Frankfurt Erster Solist zu werden. Im Jahr 2000 wechselte er dann zu Nacho Duatos Compañia Nacional de Danza. Im Jahre 2002 wurde er zum stellvertretenden künstlerischen Leiter des Victor Ullate Ballet in Madrid ernannt. Als persönlicher choreografischer Assistent von William Forsythe war Aaron S. Watkin verantwortlich für die Einstudierung aller Choreografien. Darüber hinaus wirkte er 2005 als choreografischer Assistent bei David Dawson und Johan Inger und hatte zudem die künstlerische Leitung des Loft Dance Studios in Brüssel inne. Seit dem 1. August 2006 ist Aaron S. Watkin Ballettdirektor des Semperoper Ballett.
